As reported in the media, a major winter storm—“Winter Storm Fern”—has disrupted transportation networks across the Central, South and East of the United States. The storm has brought heavy snow, sleet, ice, and record low temperatures. Frigid temperatures are expected across all mentioned USA regions for the next few days.
Overall, the storm is expected to continue causing supply chain delays, infrastructure strain, and short‑term freight rate increases as carriers, shippers, and relief organizations work through widespread weather‑driven disruptions.
Potential impacts include:
- Closure and limited operations with service delays,
- Unsafe roads causing delays or stoppage in some areas, and/or
- Overall transit delays.
